Unit One: Why Study Africa?

Module Four: Examining Africa’s History and Global Connections

Teacher's Edition

Activity One: Ancient African History - Explain

The timeline below has been marked off by 1500 year periods. Using the dates and events found in the corresponding map activity in Module 4, fit at least five events onto the timeline below. Please note that a few of the really old dates will not fit on this timeline as it only goes back to 6000 BCE. Also, pay attention to whether the dates are BCE or CE. If an event's date falls between the dates given on the timeline, make your best guess where to place it so as to show the proper date in relation to the dates given. Write your dates and events in the spcae provided to the left of the timeline. One example has been given below to get you started.
