Unit One: Why Study Africa?

Module Two: Learning About Africa - Explore

Student's Edition

Overview

Module Two: Learning about Africa continues students’ introduction to Africa on two fronts: first, through a further exploration and elucidation of students' current knowledge of Africa; and second, through establishing what students would like to learn about Africa. The module is intended to move from a brief writing exercise and class discussion to the module’s main activity: a small-group discussion meant to help students accumulate and order their current knowledge on Africa. A short teacher-led discussion at the end of the lesson should again direct students to the reasons it is important to study Africa. Two simple homework assignments are suggested to keep students thinking about the material until lesson two on the following day.
