Unit One: Why Study Africa?

Module One: Exploring the Diversity of Africa

Teacher's Edition

Activity Four: Homework - Engage

1. Have students ask their parents, siblings, and friends to respond to the question, "Quick, what five words come to your mind when I say ‘Africa’?" These responses should be recorded on a sheet of paper and placed in the Exploring Africa Workbook. When students return to classroom, the answers they recorded can be used as the springboard into the next Exploring Africa activity.

2. After the concluding discussion for this module, it’s a good time to point students to the Current Events page on the Exploring Africa web-site, so they can start exploring on their own. Here, they can find media reports and resources on Africa.
