Unit1Mod1Module Twenty One: Egypt

PURPOSE: This module was created to provide students and teachers with the opportunity to study and learn about the Northern African country of Egypt. There is often a misconception that Egypt is solely in the Middle East, but in fact it is also an integral part of North Africa. In addition to providing students with learning activities that will enhance their general knowledge and understanding of the history, geography, societies and cultures of Egypt, this module will engage students in discussion, debates, critical readings, and statistical data that will inform them more about Egypt and develop their critical thinking and reasoning skills while learning about a country of Africa.

: Ethiopia

PURPOSE: This module was created to provide students and teachers with the opportunity to study and learn about the East African country of Ethiopia. When most people think of Ethiopia they most often think of the droughts and famine that occur there. There is much more to learn about Ethiopia. It has a rich history that includes; being the first country in Africa to adopt Christianity, it is the birthplace of coffee, and it was one of only two countries in Africa not to be colonized by a European power in the late 19th century, among many other things. Ethiopia has a rich history that has not only shaped the country but influenced societies and cultures around the world.

 

Unit1Mod1Module Twenty Three: Senegal

PURPOSE: The purpose of this module is to provide students with the opportunity to study in depth one country in contemporary Africa. In addition to providing students with learning activities that will enhance their general knowledge and understanding of the history, geography, societies and cultures of Senegal, this module will thoroughly address two very important issues in contemporary Senegal: the role of Islam in Senegalese society and the legacy of the first president Leopold Sédar Senghor and the Négritude movement in which he had an essential role.

PURPOSE: This module was created to provide students and teachers with the opportunity to study and learn about the African country of Ghana.

 

 

Unit1Mod1Module Twenty Five: Nigeria

PURPOSE: The purpose of this module is to introduce students to the country of Nigeria—the most populous and one of the most economically powerful countries on the African continent.

 

Unit1Mod1Module Twenty Six: Tanzania

PURPOSE: The purpose of this module is to provide students with the opportunity to study in depth one country in contemporary Africa. In addition to providing students with learning activities that will enhance their general knowledge and understanding of the history, geography, societies and cultures of Tanzania, this module will thoroughly address two very important issues in Tanzania, both past and present: 1) the growing tourist industry and its impact on the environment and people Tanzania; 2) Tanzania’s global connections through networks of trade and cultural exchange across the Indian Ocean.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this module is to provide students with the opportunity to study in depth one country in contemporary Africa. This module will provide students with learning activities that will enhance their general knowledge and understanding of the history, geography, societies and cultures of Kenya.

 

 

Unit1Mod1Module Twenty Nine: South Africa

PURPOSE: This module provides an introduction to the Republic of South Africa, an important country on the continent of Africa because of its political, social, and economic influence. Although the country still faces challenges such as continuing racism, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and poverty, many countries in Africa (even throughout the world) look to South Africa for leadership and as an example of successful conflict resolution.

 

 

Unit1Mod1Module Thirty: Zimbabwe

PURPOSE: This module was created to provide students and teachers with the opportunity to study and learn about the African country of Zimbabwe.
